Competitive gymnastics is a year-round commitment!
What is Xcel?
XCEL is an alternative USA Gymnastics competitive program offering individual flexibility to coaches and gymnasts. The goal of XCEL is to provide gymnasts of varying abilities and commitment levels with the opportunity for a rewarding gymnastics experience. The focus of the Xcel program is sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, and fun. The emphasis in the Xcel program is on correct technique, form, and performance.
There are six levels in the USAG Xcel Program: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Sapphire. All levels have a set of skills to choose based on your child’s strengths. Each gymnast can have different routines and skills within each of the 6 levels, this is known as being optional routines. Xcel gymnasts will have the opportunity to work their way up the levels within the Xcel program. The criteria to become a part of this program will be by recommendation and evaluation of the head Xcel coach.
Xcel vs. Developmental Program
The Developmental program was developed with the belief that all athletes, regardless of their potential, must have a solid foundation of basic skills to advance safely. Due to this, levels 1-5 are compulsory which do not allow gymnasts to have different routines and adjust to each child’s strengths. For this reason, MGP Gymnastics chose the Xcel program as it is much more gymnast friendly and a better option for many families. However, our goal is for those girls that are motivated and serious to transition into the Optional (level 6/7) Developmental program when she is ready.

MAKE-UP CLASS POLICY: If your child misses a class for illness or another engagement, you will be allowed unlimited make-up classes without expiration if your tuition is up to date. Due to class size restrictions, we ask you to schedule your make-up class(es) at least 24 hrs. in advance.
MULTI-CHILD/CLASS DISCOUNT POLICY: There is a discount for siblings or a child attending multiple classes. If you have more than 3 children please contact us for special pricing for 4th, 5th, etc. child.
DROP-OFF/PICK-UP: It is important for your child to arrive on time to get the adequate warm-up and stretch to prevent injuries. Parents are welcome to stay and observe their child's class from the observation area and encouraged for those parents of young children. It is also very important for parents to be on time picking their child up. Classes often run back-to-back, so there will not be anyone available to babysit. Children will not be allowed to leave the gym, including hanging out outside unless there is an adult accompanying them. If you are allowing your child to walk home or leave the gym without an adult, then you will need to sign a form giving consent. If there are special custody issues or concerns over who your child can leave with then a form will also have to be filled out with that information. Mountain Grove school bus does drive by MGP as well, please contact the school to make arrangements.
RESTROOM/BATHROOM: Children that need help in the restroom will need a parent/guardian to stay for the entire class. MGP staff will not be assisting kids in the bathroom. Also, only one child will be allowed in the bathroom at one time unless an adult is present. It is recommended that children use restroom prior to class. *NOTE: if your child will be wearing a leotard, please make sure she can manage it on her own when using the restroom. If your child is not potty trained or learning, please make sure he/she has a pull-up or appropriate leak proof undergarment.
CHANGING CLASSES: If you are wanting to change classes due to moving up a class because of age or to accommodate your schedule, not a problem. Class changes need to be done prior to the start of the month and need to be authorized by MGP to make sure the class you are transferring into is not full. A child can move up to the next class in the child's birth month. For example, if your child's birthday is August 10 then at the start of August, your child can move up to the next class. If you are wanting your child moved into an invite only class please let us know so we can evaluate him/her to see if that class is appropriate.
BEHAVIOR/DISCIPLINE: MGP is dedicated to having a safe, fun, and wholesome environment for kids to learn gymnastics. In order to have fun and be safe there are rules that will need to be followed. MGP will focus on keeping the kids busy, positive reinforcement and ignoring unwanted behavior. As a last resort, MGP will use 1,2,3-Magic discipline method. Child will get 2 warnings to change unwanted behavior (Johnny that's 1, that's 2) and if child continues, at 3 children will miss a turn or sit out for a few minutes. However, if the behavior presents an immediate safety concern for your child or another child in the class, it will be an immediate 3 and sit out/miss a turn.
WEATHER: If the Mountain Grove schools are closed due to inclement weather, then MGP will be closed as a general rule of thumb. Please check Facebook, email, phone call, and/or text to confirm closure. Please use your best judgement and remember you have unlimited make-up classes. In case of inclement weather while at the gym, children and visitors will be escorted to safest area of the building for the weather.
PARENTS/SIBLINGS: Parents are welcomed to stay and watch their child participate from the parent area. No parents will be allowed in the gym area unless it is a parent/tot class (and then only one parent). Please refrain from coaching and/or disciplining your child from the parent area, or open doorways, this is disruptive to the other children in class and gym. This behavior also does not help your child learn how to take direction from someone other than a parent which is a very important skill to develop for school and any other sport. Also, siblings that are not enrolled or in the class going on at that time will not be allowed in the gym area.
